We were recently shocked when reading the ingredients label of the organic ketchup at the supermarket. The list included wheat flour! Of course, it is not uncommon to use flour as a thickener when making condiments, however, this meant it was time for me to make our own gluten free ketchup! I often thought store bought ketchup was a bit too sweet for my liking anyway so this was an opportunity I was looking forward to.

Gluten Free Vegan Mozzarella Sticks
Remember the days of walking into a restaurant, sitting down and ordering mozzarella sticks? Well, keep dreaming. However, we can teach you how to make your own gluten free vegan mozzarella sticks right in your own kitchen! Fair enough, right? These are so delicious and oozing with melted vegan cheese (thanks to the amazing vegan mozzarella cheese blocks made by Violife/Viofree)! We love making pizzas, vegan chicken nuggets and onion rings, so, it was definitely time to add vegan mozzarella sticks to our menu!
Imam Βayildi
The Greeks and Turks share many things, customs, words, and thankfully recipes. One of the most traditional Turkish dishes we also cook often in Greece is Imam Bayildi (which means “the Imam fainted”). He fainted because he heard how much olive oil his wife used in the Imam Bayildi! We wanted to see how tasty this dish would be without any olive oil, so we tried and the results were very satisfying! Light, yet juicy and tasty, we fainted from pleasure! Happy Halloween! What better way to celebrate than having some fun in the kitchen? We made these delicious party in the graveyard brownies. However, if you come to our door trick or treating there probably will not be any brownies left. Sorry, but they are that good!
Vegan Sweetened Condensed Milk
We needed to make vegan sweetened condensed milk for a recipe we were making and it turned out so well I decided we should share it! This recipe is really simple as it has only two ingredients: coconut milk and organic raw cane sugar. It is always nice to have sweetened condensed milk for baking, so, why shouldn’t vegans have it available as well? Continue reading Vegan Sweetened Condensed Milk
Quinori Salad
A reader of ours had a request for a new category, where we would gather all of our low calorie recipes for those trying to lose weight or follow a low cal diet. Sounds like a great idea, especially since we are eating all the food you see us making for this blog! At least Jake is exercising daily, but I can’t say I am. Now that swimming season is over there is no need to hide underneath the hoodies! So, trying recipes like this Quinori Salad is the best solution for me right now. Somehow Jake managed to make it very tasty, without a drop of olive oil (which to a Greek person sounds surreal)! I was easily convinced after tasting it and washing the dishes was so quick and easy without olive oil!
Quinori is a mix of legumes and seeds, including quinoa, sesame seeds, lentils and chickpeas. After being boiled, quinori can become a salad or soup. We found this mix at Botanica here in Patra, but I also saw it at Bamboo Vegan in Athens. However, if you can’t find it, you can use another legume mix or just plain quinoa.

Slam Dunk Five Cheese Vegan Pizza
In our last post we mentioned how Viotros sent us a mountain of vegan cheese to come up with recipes for. Athanasia had the idea to mix and match different flavors of their vegan cheese for that post, so, now it’s my turn! I have casually mentioned three and five cheese pizzas to her from my non-vegan days only to hear her say “yeah right!”. Well, it was time to show her it’s true! With basketball season right around the corner it’s time for a slam dunk five cheese vegan pizza! We made this pizza using five different flavors of vegan cheese from Viotros and it is delicious!
Party Platter with Viofree Vegan Cheeses
We were recently contacted by the Greek company Viotros telling us about their new vegan cheese slices made without preservatives. For those of you not yet familiar with Viotros, they make delicious vegan cheeses here in Greece. You can buy their products at Botanica here in Patra or at Bamboo Vegan in Athens. For a complete list of where you can find their products throughout the world click here. They can be found throughout the world under the Viofree and the Violife brand name.
Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina
October is a special month for us as our blog turns one year old on the 19th! We are excited about that and will be working on some special posts (and a surprise for our readers) leading up to our blog’s birthday! For today’s post we will be making gnocchi all sorrentina.
Growing up in Greece means you enjoy Italian cuisine using Greek tomatoes, garlic and basil. Vegetables grown in Greece truly have amazing flavor! One of my all time favorite dishes is traditional gnocchi alla sorentina. This post is a recipe for the gluten free vegan version! With our own handmade, melting mozzarella and our salty Parmesan; this food is for those of us who prefer the simple yet fulfilling flavors in life! You can either make your own gnocchi (click here for our recipe) or you can buy some. We found an amazing gluten free gnocchi from Botanica right here in Patra!
